The fourth season resumes in NBC’s Parks and Recreation
All of NBC’s sitcoms returned today (except for Community because apparently NBC hates Community) which means Parks and Recreation is back. Let’s see how long we can go without another break.
“The Comeback Kid” of the title refers to two people: Leslie, who is holding a rally to reinvent her campaign; and Ben, who has been “faffing” about since he lost his job.
The episode opens with Leslie choosing Ann to be her campaign manager, which is a surprise to both me and Ann. Why not Ben? Well, it turns out Ben is buying making calzones and claymation videos and… that’s basically it. While Leslie, Ann and the rest of the Parks Department organize the rally, Chris tries to motivate Ben to actually do something because he thinks he is depressed.
Leslie and Ann attempt to recruit Pistol Pete, a local sporting legend, to announce his support for Leslie. Unfortunately, Pistol Pete is no longer interested in being Pistol Pete, and Leslie leaves Ann to convince him while she goes to rescue Ron, Andy, April and Tom, who have broken about six laws in a minute.
As this is Parks and Recreation, Leslie’s rally is embarrassing but sweet: the whole Parks Department goes out on the ice rink with Leslie and stumble about until they manage to lift Leslie onto the stage. Pistol Pete makes a surprise appearance, announcing his support for Leslie before slipping over and injuring himself on the ice.
The rally’s disaster motivates Leslie and Ann to replace Ann with Ben, who is now motivated thanks to Chris’ supportive words and his “herb belt” concoction.
“The Comeback Kid” was a nice episode for Parks and Recreation to return on: simple and sweet and amusing. Now that Ben is Leslie’s campaign manager, the campaign will presumably result in some sort of success… presumably.
Oh, I almost forgot: April and Andy now have a three-legged dog named Champion. It can do things with three legs better than other dogs with four legs… except digging. It’s terrible at digging.
