Rudy is Out

Former NYC Mayor Rudolph Giuliani will not run for Senate or governor, reports the NY Daily News. He will also endorse Rick Lazio –the former New York Congressman who ran against Hillary Clinton for Senate in 2000 — for the gubernatorial race.

This obviously comes as a relief to Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand, as most polls showed her trailing Rudy.

Reality Check says:

As a centrist this one is a tough one for me. Senator Schumer's hand picked crony who was only selected (by our popular Governor) because of her gender, upstate residence and lack of political gravitas to compete with Schumer (now also a NY/NYC healthcare bill sellout..Ben Nelson got a lot more for his vote!) vs. a known megalomaniac, egotist, 9/11 revisionist, opportunistic, "law & order thug". My vote goes to neither of these two. I would be inclined to favor Bill Thompson if he ran. Pataki would also be compelling. Lazio is a has been who's only claim to fame was his campaign fueled by anti-Hillary $$. Lets hope Weiner (a self promoting, lightweight media created foil) stays out of this one as well. Thompson or Pataki.
