Why Does Japan Keep Apologizing for its Colonial Past?

One hundred years ago today representatives of Korea and Japan signed the Japan-Korea Annexation Treaty, which gave Japan sovereignty over Korea.

Though the ink hit the paper on the 22nd,  it didn’t kick in until August 29th, 1910 — known in Korea as “the day of national shame.”
