NFL Fantasy Football: Week Sixteen Waiver Wire Tips
Pickings remain slim, but there is some churning out there thanks to injuries and match-ups and teams playing like spoilers. If you’re fighting the good fight in the play offs and need a little help or just need to make sure the other guy doesn’t, read on.
QB
Matt Moore: (available in 94% of ESPN leagues) He’s scored at least 12 points in 6 out of his last 8 games and this week Moore faces the less-than-imposing Pats defense.
Alex Smith: (available in 63% of ESPN leagues) Hey, the guy put up 12 points against the Steelers. This week Smith faces Seattle. The Seahawks are playing tough lately, but they’re still not the Steelers.
Kyle Orton: (available in 84% of ESPN leagues) His finger is better, he’ll have one more week of practice and Orton faces a barely adequate Raiders pass defense at home.
RB:
Toby Gerhart: (available in 61% of ESPN leagues) Everybody said, that he’d get benched with Peterson back, but Gerhart made the most of the touches he got. And he’ll still get plenty of work in a meaningless game to keep Peterson’s injury risk minimal.
Kahlil Bell: (available in 86% of ESPN leagues) Yeah, Barber’s in the doghouse. The Bears will see how much they can get out of the kid.
Lance Ball: (available in 96% of ESPN leagues) McGahee’s hamstring is balky and even if he plays Ball will get a fair bit of work. Why? have you ever tried to keep a wonky hamstring warm and loose outdoors in Buffalo in December? They can’t make enough Ben-Gay for that.
Sammy Morris: (available in 99% of ESPN leagues) Felix Jones is questionable. Even if he plays he’s gimpy. Morris isn’t a kid anymore and he doesn’t have big speed, but he’s a tough runner, he has fresh legs and a reliable receiver out of the backfield.
WR
Greg Little: (available in 91% of ESPN leagues) He’s the best Seneca Wallace has to throw to. I know that doesn’t inspire confidence against Baltimore, but the Ravens just seem to have a knack of playing like complete suck-monsters against lousy teams.
Nate Burleson: (available in 72% of ESPN leagues) This is a risky play against an up and down Chargers team, but if Calvin Johnson attracts the attention he deserves, the old guy can still rack up some yards.
Demaryius Thomas: (available in 63% of ESPN leagues) He’s put up double digits the last three weeks and TDs in 2 of the last three games. This week, Tebow’s favorite receiver faces the beatable Bills pass defense.
TE
Brent Celek (available in 72% of ESPN leagues) I don’t think he’ll break 20 points again, but I expect him and the Eagles to put a load of points up on Dallas’ defense. And I’m a Cowboys homer.
Ed Dickson: (available in % of ESPN leagues) The Ravens don’t go to their TE much but the Browns do a good job of covering WRs but nowhere near as good with TEs.
