NFL Fantasy Football: Week Eleven Waiver Wire Tips
Yow! What a week! There’s definitely a need for waiver wire help this week. Between the last bye week and all the injuries last week, there’s more than a few rosters out there that need some major revising. Here are some tips.
QB
Carson Palmer: (available in 74% of ESPN leagues) He’s caught on to his offense and shaken off the rust faster than I thought and he’s got a slate of fair to not-so-fair pass defenses coming up.
Matt Hasselbeck: (available in 47% of ESPN leagues) He’s still out there in a lot of leagues, been fantasy relevant without a lot of weapons and like Palmer has some vulnerable pass defenses coming up
Alex Smith: (available in 85% of ESPN leagues) He’s scored in double digits in most of his games this year, Crabtree is getting better and even if Kendall Hunter has to play instead of Gore, Smith has a strong running game and a strong defense to get him good field position.
Vince Young: (available in 99% of ESPN leagues) There’s some risk here, but if Vick sits because of his broken ribs, Young is the best skill-set fit to replace him over Kafka. Plus, he does have weapons and he has won as a starter in the NFL before.
Matt Leinart: (available in 100% of ESPN leagues) Ok, there’s a ton of risk here. He is a first round BUST! But with Schaub lost for the season, like Alex Smith, he also has a strong run game and strong defense to rely on, and, like VY, he has a lot of weapons. Plus he has a bye this week so he has two weeks to prepare for the Jags.
RB
Chris Ogbonnaya: (available in 86% of ESPN leagues) He’s basically all the Browns have and he showed he can run last week. And don’t forget, he’s a good receiver, too.
Lance Ball: (available in 99% of ESPN leagues) Moreno is now on IR and McGahee has a bad hamstring. He’s almost in a situation as favorable to getting carries as Ogbonnaya, except that Tebow’s running like a RB.
Kendall Hunter: (available in 94% of ESPN leagues) Kind of a risk, since Gore says his injury is minor. but even if that is true, I think the 8-1 Niners will be prone to letting him rest so he’s healthy for an almost 100% certain playoff run.
WR
Early Doucet: (available in 81% of ESPN leagues) He’s scored a TD in three of the last four games and no less than 7 points in any of those weeks. Not fantastic, but with a back-up QB playing that’s pretty good. He’s making the most of all the attention defenses give Fitz.
Laurent Robinson: (available in 86% of ESPN leagues) I know I’m a Cowboys homer, but that has nothing to do with this. With Austin still out, he’s the clear #2 WR in an often pass happy offense that has found a workhorse back to keep defenses honest. Most of the pass defenses’ attention goes to Bryant and Witten. He’s got size (6’2″ 194) and speed and he’s a veteran (2 years in Atlanta and 2 years in St. Louis) where she showed promise before catching on with the Cowboys this year. He was just a little slow to develop coming out of a small school, Illinois State. What’s not to like as a waiver wire pick-up?
Antonio Brown: (available in 46% of ESPN leagues) The Steelers are no longer a team with a dominant RB. The workhorse of this offense is Big Ben. And this kid is an emerging star that benefits from all the attention defenses give to stopping Mike Wallace, the #1 WR.
Damian Williams: (available in 98% of ESPN leagues) Granted, Nate Washington is no Kenny Britt, but here’s another kid that’s a competent WR that is benefitting from not being the focus of attention of the defense.
TE
Tony Scheffler: (available in 98% of ESPN leagues) The last few weeks, he’s been the scoring threat at TE instead of Pettigrew. Ride the trend. It’s not like the Lions have a stud RB to count on, so they’re going to be throwing it.
Jake Ballard: (available in 65% of ESPN leagues) He has cooled off the last two weeks in tough match-up but this week he gets the downward spiraling Iggles and they don’t do a great job covering the TE.
