NFL Fantasy Football: Scanning The Waiver Wire
Ah, the turmoil is settling in, what with injuries and the last second trades. But there’s still some unexpected values out there on the waiver wire. Here’s some ideas for you if you need some help rebuilding your roster.
QB
Carson Palmer: (available in 99% of ESPN leagues) Don’t expect him to be a quick fix, he’s so totally not in playing shape. But if you have a QB that has a bye coming up, say, in week 11 or you want to store him up for a fantasy playoff run once he’s gotten the offense down, go for it.
Matt Hasselbeck: (available in 49% of ESPN leagues) The only reason he’s not a top 10 fantasy QB right this moment is that he had a bye last week and couldn’t add to his points totals. The only game he’s scored below 16 points was his last one against the Steelers and he still racked up double digits with 12. And this is without Kenny Britt.
Colt McCoy: (available in 74% of ESPN leagues) C’mon. McCoy’s solid, even without a marquee WR to throw to. He’s quietly and efficiently putting together a good fantasy year.
Tim Tebow: (available in 59% of ESPN leagues) Yes, the Broncos shipped off Brandon Lloyd, but Tebow still has phenom Eric Decker to throw to and he’s facing the Dolphins this week who are reeling.
Matt Cassel: (available in 40 % of ESPN leagues) He started out the year stinking it up but before the bye Cassel had stung together 3 good performances in a row. I think he’s out of his funk.
RB
Demarco Murray: (available in 97% of ESPN leagues) Felix Jones is out for a while and Tashard Choice is in the semi-doghouse with the Cowboys this year. Murray will start and he does have some impressive physical traits: some size, some pop and he can catch the ball. Plus, this week he’s facing the rams and they haven’t been playing the run well.
Jackie Battle: (available in 74% of ESPN leagues) Battle’s got way fresher legs than Thomas Jones and he’s way, way bigger than McCluster.
Montario Hardesty: (available in 84% of ESPN leagues) With Hillis’ health being in question, he’s a good pick-up, kids.
Earnest Graham: (available in 34% of ESPN leagues) He’s almost all snapped up, but if you can get him, get him. Blount is gonna be out for a bit.
WR
Darrius Heyward-Bey: (available in 49% of ESPN leagues) It’s not saying much, but Heyward-Bey is looking like he’s going to be the most productive Raider receiver going forward.
David Nelson:(available in 54% of ESPN leagues) He’s on a bye this week, but he’s now the clear #2 WR in the Buffalo offense which means Steve Johnson draws attention away from the big (6’5″) skinny kid.
TE
Fred Davis: (available in 52% of ESPN leagues) Looks like Cooley is out and the Skins offense likes to go to the TE off of play action with all that running back by committee stuff going on.
Jake Ballard: (available in 98% of ESPN leagues) The Giants have a bye week, but snatch him up. With all the uncertainties at the WR position, Manning has been calling on Ballard a lot lately and he’ll probably be keeping that up the rest of the season.
