2011 Oscar Winners: Who Took Home the Award?
Here are last night’s Oscar winners:
Best Picture: The King’s Speech
(After locking up Best Actor and Director, it seemed a sure bet–and then Colin Firth’s voice over on the Best Picture montage certainly seemed like it sealed the deal. I was rooting for The Social Network, but oh well. Maybe it will become known as the Citizen Kane of our time)
Best Actor: Colin Firth, The King’s Speech
No surprises there. Brits give such witty acceptance speeches don’t they? And Colin Firth is somehow always so…Colin Firth like. Oh, Darcy.
Best Actress: Natalie Portman, Black Swan
Another lock up, natch. Looked stunning in her deep purple gown and pregnancy glow. Gave a really sweet speech where she thanked everyone involved in her career, ever. Also–didn’t forget her fiance’s name! Props
Best Director: Tom Hooper, The King’s Speech
Thanked his mom for discovering The King’s Speech in the first place. This is just one more reason why moms are awesome.
Best Supporting Actor: Christian Bale, The Fighter
He’s British?? my mom asked. Clearly she never saw Newsies. Also, bizarrely seemed to forget his wife’s name? But managed to remember Boomer, whoever that was.
Best Supporting Actress: Melissa Leo, The Fighter
Who will now be known for dropping the F-bomb during her acceptance speech while Kirk Douglas hovers giddy and half alive in the background
Best Adapted Screenplay: Aaron Sorkin, The Social Network
Best Screenplay: David Seidler, The King’s Speech
Another adorable Brit who gave a moving acceptance speech on behalf of stutterers all over the world; also probably helps that he is, in fact, a writer. Also, the oldest nominee to win this category.
Best Foreign Language Film: In Another World (Denmark)
Best Animated Feature: Toy Story 3
Best Music (Original Score): Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, The Social Network
Best Documentary Feature: Inside Job
And yeah, the fact that three years after the financial crisis none of the big wigs who brought this upon us have gone to jail is pretty sickening. Also, no Banksy appearance
Best Song: Randy Newman, “We Belong Together,” from Toy Story 3
Best Cinematography: Wally Pfister, Inception
Best Visual Effects: Paul Franklin, Chris Corbould, Andrew Lockley and Peter Bebb, Inception
Best Art Direction: Robert Stromberg (Production Design), Karen O’Hara (Set Direction), Alice in Wonderland
