IFC unleashes Armisen and Brownstein on Oregon

Fans of smart comedy should rejoice about the debut of IFC’s new show, Portlandia. Fred Armisen, of SNL and intense drumming, and Carrie Brownstein, of Sleater-Kinney and NPR music blogging, have been reliably entertaining fans with their online comedy partnership, Thunderant, for a few years now. Their new show appears to take the characters created from the web series and put them in a narrative context, set in Portland, Oregon. Given the description from IFC and the types of targets Thunderant went after, the show sounds like it will be the hilarious skewering of liberal pieties that Mike Judge’s The Goode Family desperately tried, and desperately failed, to be. Sure, the new show could fall flat on its face, but if it’s half as good as Thunderant, it’ll be appointment viewing for my household. Check out their Thunderant skit Feminist Bookstore below for a taste.
