When Vampires Attack

It doesn’t always happen like this. In fact, I’m willing to suggest that it never happened like this before, until Thursday night of last week. Two transients with nowhere to sleep for the night hunker down on a vacated Hooters patio. One is an old man, 69 years old; his bed is a wheelchair. The other is a young woman of 22. When the man wakes up later that night, the woman is on top of him with her teeth, half-naked and tearing chunks of flesh from his lips and other parts of his face. The man fires up his motorized wheelchair and zooms off to the nearby Shell station, where assistance is sought, and received. The woman’s arrested: aggravated battery on an elderly person, bail $50,000. The night is like that sometimes.
